Pete Barham – Open Architecture
I founded Wānaka-based Open Architecture in 2016. Prior to establishing my own practice, I worked at leading architectural firms in Dunedin and Wānaka.
With broad experience across a range of typologies, I enjoy fresh and varied challenges and currently focus on residential design projects.
My approach to new projects is client focused and considered. I take the time to ensure the clients’ requirements are clearly understood and documented.
Moving to Wānaka and starting Open Architecture were lifestyle choices driven by my love of the outdoors and the local area’s natural beauty. A passion for the outdoors is often reflected in my projects, through materiality, view shafts and a focus on exterior spaces.
Providing for the local community is a leading ethos of the firm. Through both volunteering and donation, I work with a varied range of local charities and events to improve nature and wellbeing.
Building strong relationships, being available throughout the design and construction process and keeping communication open, timely and realistic are values I live by.
