AESTHETIC

A simple aesthetic is what we do. This often requires complex consideration and iteration in design, which needs to be well communicated for a seamless construction process. This is where our knowledge, skills and experience come in.

SUSTAINABLE PRINCIPLES

Within budget, we design using the most practical and efficient products available to achieve sustainable outcomes. We aim to increase insulation values and glazing quality while taking advantage of passive solar heating. We also attempt to reduce the use of toxic materials and reduce waste on-site wherever possible.

AFFORDABILITY IN DESIGN

Balancing affordability and design requires a great deal of consideration. We take the utmost care to meet the needs and wants of our clients, whilst always working with the project budget in mind.

OPEN & AVAILABLE

Clear communication and an honest relationship is a commitment made to clients and contractors alike. We believe this is key to our mutual integrity and success. A seamless design process relies on being responsive and available. We are here for the honest conversations needed to solve issues and navigate challenges.

PETE BARHAM

I established Wanaka-based Open Architecture in 2016. Prior to starting my own practice, I delivered a variety of projects for high-end architectural firms in Dunedin and Wanaka. Having worked with a wide range of stakeholders over the years, I am adept at leading and coordinating a seamless design process. My approach to new projects is considered and I take the time to ensure the clients’ requirements are clearly documented and understood. Building strong relationships, by being available throughout the design and construction process and keeping communication open, timely and realistic are values I live by.

COMMUNITY

We take an active role in supporting community events and causes.
